Texas businesses that collect sales tax will have an extra week to report and remit that sales tax to the state. The Texas Comptroller announced that the February 22 deadline for reporting and paying Sales and Use Tax will be extended to March 1. This extension is due to the winter storm and widespread power outages.

The extension also applies to certain other state taxes and fees, such as the occupancy tax collected by hotels and the mixed beverage taxes collected by sellers of alcoholic beverages. A complete list of the affected taxes and fees can be found on the Comptroller’s website (https://comptroller.texas.gov/taxes/file-pay/due-dates.php).

The due date extension applies to all state taxpayers. It is automatic, and taxpayers do not need to file any additional forms.
